Beauty at Sea – MSC Bellissima

So you probably heard about it on the news – the biggest cruise ship to be Christened in Southampton last week! Well we were fortunate enough to have been at the Launch party for MSC Bellissima overnight and want to give you an opportunity to see the ship and all her great facilities.

With capacity for over 5000 she is a big ship but once on board you do forget her size as you walk down the 80ft LED domed walkway surrounded by shops and eateries.  You get a feeling of space and innovation all around. They have cleverly designed spaces so there are nooks for you to grab a beer, gelato or coffee while you watch the world go by.

She really is a resort at sea as there is so much on board for all ages. So lets start with the kids!

A great set of kids and youth venues to be had on Divina & Seaview Deck:

  • The Baby Club with Chicco equipment for under 3 yr olds
  • The Doremi Lab – a great tech lab for the children to explore
  • The Doremi Studio cinema
  • The Mini Club in conjunction with Lego for 3-6 yrs
  • The Juniors Club in conjunction with Lego for 7-11 yrs
  • The Young Club for 12-14 Yrs
  • The Teens Club for 15-17 yrs

Wow so much for them to do and now a couple of things the adults can join in too…

There is a Virtual games arcade & bowling alley, a virtual reality maze, a F1 simulator and an XD interactive cinema. We got to try out the interactive cinema – a row of about 6 seats that move around as you play in 3D within your chosen game story all the while being surrounded by sound, light and wind. Definitely recommend trying this out – such great fun!

Now if you are more of an outdoors person then head to the ropes course or the Arizona Waterpark on the top deck.  The weather wasn’t kind to us on our visit so didn’t get to try these out but they look brilliant for all ages.

If you prefer lazing by the pool then there is plenty of choice including the Grand Canyon themed indoor pool, perfect for those not so nice days! There is also an adults only Top 19 Exclusive Solarium.

Now of course being a cruise ship there is plenty of food to be had.  As always there are  main restaurants available and here we have 4 of them plus the Marketplace Buffet where you can graze on a vast selection of food most of the day.  Then there are a number of Speciality restaurants to try out:

  • Butchers Cut American Steak house
  • Hola! Tapas bar by Ramon Freixa
  • Kato Sushi & Kato Teppanyaki
  • l’Atelier Bistrot

Then one of the highlights of the ship is the Carousel Lounge where you can enjoy a Cocktail or gourmet dinner while you watch a breath taking Cirque du Soliel show- a first at Sea.

On top of all of  this is a range of Bars and lounge areas where you can kick back and take in the views, watch the sun set, enjoy pre/post show drinks or just chill by the pool. The choice is yours!

So far there is much to whet your appetite and yet still so much more:

  • Nightly shows in the London Theatre
  • Night club in the Attic
  • The Imperial casino
  • TV studio and bar
  • The Aurea Spa
  • The gym
  • The sportplex for Basketball, tennis, volleyball and football

Something for everyone is available on this ship. For those who like that extra bit of luxury – try out the MSC Yacht Club.

A ship within a ship with its own concierge area, 95 suites with 24hr butler service,

  • Priority lift to Aurea Spa,
  • Top Sail Lounge
  • MSC Yacht Club Restaurant
  • MSC Yacht Club Grill & Bar
  • MSC Yacht Club Pool
  • MSC Yacht Club Sundeck and bar

And we haven’t even talked about cabins on the rest of the ship yet….

Plenty of different options to choose from including the usual inside, outside and balcony cabins. But also Royal Suites, Deluxe suites, Duplex Suites on 2 floors, Accessible cabins, Inside Studios for 1 and the clever Family Cabins where up to 10 Passengers can share in 2 connecting cabins with wonderful bunk beds behind a little curtain.  As I said, something for everyone!

So what did we think of her you might ask??

She is on the large size for my liking but an amazing array of activities on board does take your mind off that pretty quickly.  The corridors to the cabins do feel long and quite confusing but you can even download an app on your phone – MSC for Me – where you can book & plan your activities and routes from one place to another on the ship along with messaging other members of your party so you can keep track of everyone. The food was good quality and service was great. Remember that because there is a large number of passengers you might have to queue to get off her in port, but she is a wonderful addition to the MSC family of ships. Fun and a little quirky, with Swarovski crystal all around. Plenty of entertainment and eating options and even with her being a little larger than my preference, I would happily take the family on her as soon as possible.

Oh and did I mention Zoe – your in cabin personal assistant…. Just another innovation at sea for MSC.
